As a photo booth company, our entire business is built around capturing joy. Whether it is a wedding, a milestone birthday, or a massive corporate gala, our job is to deliver smiles, laughter, and high-quality memories.

Unfortunately, we are increasingly fielding phone calls that are anything but joyful. Instead, we are answering frantic, last-minute calls from devastated brides and stressed event planners who have been left high and dry by unscrupulous vendors. Lately, one name seems to keep coming up as a source of these nightmares in the Gauteng area: Wonder Booth.

When companies operate this way, it doesn't just ruin a client's special day—it gives our entire industry a bad reputation, leaving the rest of us to scramble and pick up the pieces.

The Irony of the "Honest" Vendor

If you visit Wonder Booth's website, you will find a compelling origin story. The founder claims the business was started after he had a "negative experience hiring a photo booth for a special occasion," stating that his goal was to ensure nobody else had to go through the same thing. The site proudly advertises an "honest, trustworthy, and professional service".  

However, a quick look at real customer experiences tells a completely different story.

Instead of preventing negative experiences, they seem to be creating them. Take, for example, a recently shared wedding nightmare where a couple paid Wonder Booth in full, only for the photo booth to completely no-show. When a late replacement finally arrived, they brought no props, printed very few photos, and failed to provide the custom frames that the couple had actually paid for. To make matters worse, the promised digital copies of the photos were never delivered to the client, and the company offered absolutely no refund or attempt to make amends.

When bad actors take full payments and disappear, or deliver a hilariously subpar service compared to what was promised, consumers lose trust in all of us. People start assuming that all photo booth rentals are a gamble, which simply isn't true.

We want to make sure your next event is remembered for the fun, not the frustration. If you are looking to hire a photo booth, here is how you can protect yourself from companies operating in bad faith:

• Check Third-Party Reviews: Don't just rely on the curated testimonials on a vendor's website. Look for independent reviews on wedding directories, Google, and social media comments to see how they handle things when things go wrong.

• Get Everything in a Contract: A professional company will provide a detailed contract outlining arrival times, the number of prints, exactly what props are included, and the policy for refunds or equipment failures.

• Beware of "Too Good to be True" Pricing: While everyone loves a deal, rock-bottom prices are often a red flag for unreliable service, poor-quality cameras, or a complete no-show. Quality equipment and reliable staffing cost money.

• Look for Transparency: Reputable vendors communicate clearly and promptly. If a vendor is dodging your calls or giving vague answers about their setup before the event, walk away.
